Havank covers

Havank is the famous nom de plume of Dutch crime writer Hendrikus Frederikus (Hans) van der Kallen (1904-1964), who published more than 30 detective novels and stories featuring the French police duo Bruno Silvère and Charles C.M. Carlier (aka, "de Schaduw"/"The Shadow"). As if the French protagonists weren't génial enough, wait until you cast your peepers on Havank's book cover designs. Lots of yellow, lots of French references (I mean, berets and cigarettes and chats, what more do you need?!)... oh, and lots of Dick Bruna.

Some of Bruna's Havank covers:

But Bruna wasn't the only excellent Havank cover designer. Check out these earlier gems, which I found via 50Watts:

Thanks to TwinCoverCollector for providing many of the images above!

**For more on Dick Bruna's fabulous book cover illustrations, see my previous posts HERE and HERE (<-which also features a couple of his Havank covers).

Nice, something Dutch :-) Love these covers, especially the Dick Bruna ones! In his museum in Utrecht they're hanging all together on a wall, very cool!
